MARITIME LNG & SEA ENERGY FORUM

Simultaneous translation is provided

The short-term solution for the energy transition towards decarbonisation is beginning to take hold in Italy too, driven by the cruise sector, which has long since chosen LNG for the propulsion of the new ships entering service. After a few attempts at traditional solutions, such as coastal depots blocked by resistance of various kinds, new projects are based on small-scale LNG storage and mobile refuelling. Reducing the political risk of supply has also linked maritime use of natural gas with industrial and power generation use. Future fixed and mobile regasifiers can become hubs for the maritime use of the liquid raw material has meanwhile already become a central theme for the nation’s energy security, although the acceptance of this change of perspective is still far from universal, even in the port world.

Main topics:

  • port energy
  • shipowners’ and ports’ LNG strategy
  • small-scale LNG
  • projects and operational programmes in Italy
